OK, so I used to be one of those people that when someone started talking about 'natural ingredients' and 'chemical free' I would roll my eyes and smile and nod whilst drifting off and think about something else like what I was going to eat for dinner that night, or how
I need to repaint my nails. Anything but get on this persons latest 'trending' band wagon. Now, I grew up and living in Mullumbimby for 14 years, and if there is any place where you can get caught up in all things peace, love and brown rice (as my mother would say) it's there. Don't get me wrong, living there we embraced the local 'culture' ( I think i tie-dyed every piece of clothing i owned at one stage, and possibly even the curtains! - I have always had a creative streak in me..) but once or twice a year mum would take me and escape up to the bright lights and busy shopping centres of the Gold Coast which were full of important looking well groomed women in full face make up walking in their high heels like they had somewhere to be, grasping all their shopping bags.
I always wished i would grow up to be as beautiful as the Myer Makeup counter girls.
Today, Im definitely one of those girls that loves to shop, loves to get dressed up pretty, I style my hair every day and I wake up and paint my face with make up. These things make me feel better about myself. Somethings will never change. But lately I have been looking at what I put in and on my body due to the fact that my partner and I have decided to start trying for our first baby ( wish us luck, practice makes perfect!!) I have started looking into these 'natural ingredients' and 'chemical free' alternatives to my usual beauty regime and to be honest am pleasantly surprised with the results.
I've previously blogged about using coconut oil as a body wash, and I also have started using an exfoliating sea salt soap for after work out sessions or just when i need that extra clean from a full on day etc. It's from a brand called OPT Outside. Its a 100% Australian made cleansing bar and contains natural mineral-rich sea salt and jojoba beads to gently purify and exfoliate while thoroughly cleansing your skin. This stuff smells amazing and doesn't leave my skin feeling like i forgot i was wearing a dry face mask, as so many conventional soaps do.
Some words from OPT Outside
Our body contains about 75% liquid which is very similar to seawater. And as such Sea Water and Sea Salt Therapy can have a significant impact on our well-being. It can not only detoxify the body but also treat many conditions including allergies, tired and aching muscles, and circulatory, respiratory and skin problems. Marine salts (sea salt) provide antiseptic effect to the skin and reduce histamines that cause inflammation and itching sensations. Sea Salt Soap is a very skin healthy and earth friendly option for washing the body.
Benefits of OPT Sea Salt Soap:
- The mild formulation of this Sea salt Soap is suitable for face and body
- The rich lather provides a healthy skin-friendly base for shaving
- Coconut, olive and palm oils provide gentle hydration while cleansing
- The bracing scent of cedar and spice offers a refreshing & energising shower
- Olssons Sea Salt is a 100% Australian family owned and operated company which has been making sea salt in Australia since 1964
- NEVER tested on animals
Another product I started hearing about is how bad the conventional antiperspirants are for us. This is a BIG one guys!!
Seems some of them contain aluminium which has some researchers expressing concerns that this can be an influence, maybe even a big contributing factor in Alzheimers and breast cancer. #nothanks The only negative i have found with going al-natural is that a lot of them don't work. And many of them you have to re-apply through the day for it to do its job, which if we be honest that's just not something most of us have time for..
If you have ever thought about trying a chemical free, organic deodorant, this is the one to try or if you have previously used an organic or natural deodorant which didn't quite do the job, please try Eco Tan's because it wont disappoint. Smells like summer in a bottle - love that coconut smell.
• No Aluminium • No Parabens • No Hidden Nasties;
Also, this product is unisex so have it in the bathroom and share it with your husband, partner, housemates, family members, anyone who passes through, just tell them about it. It has also been created and made in Australia & I love that fact so support Eco Tan and have a try of their Organic Deodorant!
